Venous Leak and Erectile Dysfunction: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatments

For many years, I have met men who came to me discouraged after hearing that their erectile dysfunction was “in their head” or that nothing more could be done.
As a vascular surgeon, I could not accept that.
I knew that in many cases, the cause was not psychological but vascular, and therefore treatable.

That belief led me to develop a surgical technique to correct venous leaks — a mechanical cause of erectile dysfunction that can now be repaired with precision and lasting success.

Understanding the Real Cause: Venous Leak

An erection depends on two coordinated mechanisms:

  1. Blood must flow efficiently into the penis through the arteries.
  2. That blood must then be retained inside the penis by the veins.

When the veins fail to close properly, blood escapes too quickly, and the erection becomes unstable or short-lived.
This condition is known as a venous leak.

Traditional treatments, such as pills, often fail because they do not address this vascular dysfunction.
That realization motivated me to create a direct, anatomical solution.

Developing the Technique

Over the course of my career, I designed a procedure that combines Caverno-CT imaging with a hybrid surgical and micro-embolization approach.
This allows me to identify and seal every venous leakage point with accuracy.

Unlike previous methods, which treated only a few veins, this compreheScientific publication: Allaire E et al. “Ligation and Embolization in One Procedure for Cavernovenous Leakage in 171 Patients with Drug-Resistant Erectile Dysfunction.” Annals of Vascular Surgery. 2025;121:664-672. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.avsg.2025.08.025nsive repair restores normal blood retention inside the penis.

In our published results, up to 80 percent of patients recover stable, functional erections.
For comparison, isolated embolization typically achieves 20–30 percent.
Many of my patients later return to tell me they have regained not only their sexual function but also their confidence and joy of living.

Recognition by the Vascular Community

I had the privilege of presenting this work at the VEITH International Vascular Surgery Congress in New York, one of the world’s most respected scientific events.
This recognition confirmed that erectile dysfunction should no longer be viewed as a purely psychological condition but as a treatable vascular disease.

As vascular surgeons, we have the tools and knowledge to correct it.

What This Means for You

If you experience persistent erection difficulties, it is essential to identify whether a venous leak could be the cause.
A proper vascular evaluation is the first step toward a lasting solution.

You can begin with a self-assessment test or learn more about available treatments.
If you prefer to discuss your situation confidentially, you can book a consultation.

Understanding the origin of your symptoms is the most important step toward recovery.

Conclusion

This technique represents years of research and conviction that erectile dysfunction is not an inevitability.
By addressing the vascular cause, we can restore natural erections and improve overall health.
My goal has always been to reconnect men to life — through science, precision, and compassionate care.
